Drug Alcohol Traffic Education (DATE)
Reference:
Florida Statute (F.S) 322.095 - traffic law and substance abuse education program
for first time Florida driver license applicants.
Effective January 1, 1990, Florida law requires all first time driver license
applicants to attend a Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)-approved
traffic law and substance abuse education course or a DOE approved driver's education
course.
This four hour DHSMV approved traffic law and substance abuse course provides
instruction on the following:
- The physiological and psychological consequences of the abuse of alcohol
and other drugs
- The societal and economics costs of alcohol and drug abuse
- The effects of alcohol and drug abuse on the driver of a motor vehicle
- The laws of this state related to the operations of a motor vehicle
