Occupational Safety & Health

We invite any members of the community to join the Northeast Florida Safety Council for our occupational safety benefits, although our targets are usually companies, organizations, associations, institutions, government subdivisions and schools. The goal of our Occupational Health & Safety Program is to educate members and the community about how to create and sustain a safe work environment for employees.

What is the payoff to you? Reduced legal liability resulting from employee accidents, decreased costs and downtime due to absent workers, less stress and worry on management about employee health, reduced insurance premiums, and increased profits just to name a few. Hands On Forklift

The Northeast Florida Safety Council, in partnership with First Coast Technical College, now offers Hands-On Forklift Driver Training. This 8-hour combination of classroom and actual behind-the-wheel training is geared toward drivers who have little or no forklift-driving experience. Participants will be taught basic forklift operation and receive practical training in the skill set needed to safely drive a forklift.

Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 18 years of age to enroll and they must have successfully completed the 4-hour Forklift Safety Training Class.

Upon completion of this course, participants must pass a written exam and a hands-on forklift skills test to earn a certificate that satisfies the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) Standard, 1910.178 for formal classroom training. Remember: Employers must train forklift operators on each type of forklift they may operate at their place of employment and on how to drive safely in the workplace.
